A Strong Start to the School Year at Southmoor

09/06/24, 4:01 PM

Dear Southmoor Families,

We are thrilled to share that our first week of school was a resounding success! Our students, families, and staff's quick acclimation to school and classroom routines has created an atmosphere of positivity and engagement. Our classrooms are filled with eager learners actively participating in lessons, building relationships, and diving into new experiences. It’s been wonderful to see the collective support from everyone in our community contributing to such a smooth and joyful start.

As we look forward, there are a few areas for continued refinement and some reminders to help keep our community running smoothly:

  1. Timely Student Drop-Off and Pick-Up: Please aim to arrive within a 5-minute window before and after the school bell at 8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. For families with multiple children, we encourage you to use a “one-stop-shop” approach by dropping off and picking up all children at the youngest sibling’s entry or designated area.

  2. Safe Driving Practices: To ensure the safety of everyone, please avoid making U-turns, maintain appropriate speeds, and be mindful when parking to avoid blocking neighbors’ driveways. Following these practices will help us manage traffic flow efficiently during arrival and dismissal.

  3. Supporting a Positive Student Outlook: Let’s continue encouraging our students to build relationships, come prepared with their materials, and develop problem-solving skills. These habits help foster a positive school experience and set them up for success.

  4. Complete Registration and Submit Required Documents:  If you haven’t done so already, please complete the registration process and submit any outstanding documents as soon as possible. Please respond to any communication or paperwork that is sent to you for completion. Feel free to reach out to Ms. Gaby Nava Hernadez, our office support with any questions or need for support regarding this.

  5. REACHWELL - Schoolwide Communication System:  We’re excited to announce that REACHWELL will be our primary communication platform. Our Southmoor staff is currently being trained to use the app, and we will begin launching it with the community during the first week of September. This platform will allow families, teachers, and staff to easily connect and communicate effectively as a school community. Please see the previous communication regarding this for your reference.

  6. Get Involved with the Southmoor Community: We invite you to connect with our Southmoor Parent Teacher Organization (PTO). Getting involved is a great way to build connections and support the school in meaningful ways. Our PTO will hold informal events outside the school during arrival or dismissal to support you in engaging with our school community.

  7. Southmoor Community Calendar:  Keep up to date with all school events by checking the Southmoor community calendar. It’s a helpful tool to stay informed about important dates and happenings throughout the year.

  8. Explore Our School Website:  To learn more about our school and access specific information, we encourage you to explore our school website. It’s a great resource for staying informed about events, programs, and updates throughout the year.

  9. Follow Us on Social Media:  Stay connected by following us on Instagram and Facebook. It’s a great way to see highlights from our school, stay updated on events, and be part of our community online.

  10. Conversation with Mr. JP:  As we begin the school year, we invite you to be an active part of our community by meeting and connecting with our principal, Mr. JP. This is a chance for families to share their hopes and dreams for the school, ask questions, and learn more about what to look forward to this year. This event will be on Friday, September 20, 2024 from 8:00 a.m. - 9:00 a.m. and Tuesday, October 1, 2024 from 5:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.  You can pick any of these times that would be best for you to engage in.  Your voice is important in shaping the Southmoor experience, and we look forward to engaging with you!

We’re off to an inspiring start, and with your continued partnership, I am confident that this will be an exceptional year for our students. Thank you for your dedication and for making Southmoor such a wonderful community to be a part of. Here’s to a year filled with learning, growth, and shared success!

In service of the most important person in the world - YOUR CHILD,
