Specials Winter newsletter-resend
02/03/25, 1:13 PM
I apologize for the delay-resending as this did not go to everyone the first time.
ART
Thank you so much for your thoughtful gifts and warm wishes this winter. Your kindness and generosity mean the world to me, and I feel so lucky to be part of such a creative and caring community.
I'm excited to be back after a relaxing time with my family. We are starting off the year with all things fiber-related. We will be weaving, knitting, crocheting, sewing, and more. If you want to donate some extra yarn, please drop it off in the art room. (large yarn needed the most)
@SouthmoorArt Check out the art room's Instagram page to see some of the work from last semester. I am in the teacher's parking lot in the mornings if you need to connect with me. I can be reached at heather_witsoe@dpsk12.net.
Thanks again for the love this December.

MUSIC
Greetings from the Music room! To echo Ms. Witsoe’s sentiments, I was overwhelmed with your generosity and kindness. I feel so grateful to be part of this community and look forward to learning and growing with your students in 2025.
3rd-5th grade will be starting recorders in January. I will have a classroom instrument for each student to use while at school.
If you’d like to order one to play at home, there are a lot of options out there. Just make sure it is soprano and Baroque style (not German). I recommend spending $5-$10 for better sound quality. Although shipping costs are a consideration, my go-to is the Peripole Baroque Soprano Halo Recorder-Gold.
ECE-2nd grade will continue to build on the musical concepts we’ve learned so far through singing and playing percussion instruments as well as integrating movement, scarves, parachutes, and a stretchy band (ask your students what this is!) whenever possible.
Please reach out to me through ReachWell or at erin_sharp@dpsk12.net with any questions. Thank you for your partnership!

P.E.
As my amazing colleagues, Ms. Witsoe and Ms. Sharp, have already said, THANK YOU so very much for your extremely kind, generous, and thoughtful gifts this holiday season! Wow, Southmoor families are so amazing and supportive!
It has really been a fun year in PE class so far! Your students are fun to work with and have been doing a great job of trying their best, working hard and working well with others, and engaging in all the units and activities we’ve had in PE class.
Thank you to everyone who took the time out to sign the waiver for your student to participate in the Colorado Avalanche Hockey 101 Program back on January 8th. It was a fun day and we received an amazing donation of 50 floor hockey sticks and balls, 48 reversible Avs scrimmage pinnies, two Avs target practice goals, and a few other pieces of equipment as well - an incredible value! Click HERE if you’d like to see a few photos from our Hockey 101 day.
We are currently wrapping up the last week of our Floor Hockey Unit and will be moving on to the always popular Gymnastics Unit after that. We are also looking forward to another fun Southmoor tradition: participating in the 2025 Kids Heart Challenge. We’ll kick off this year’s Kids Heart Challenge with a special RRCK’n Moose Day on Friday, February 7th and it will go through Friday, March 7th when we’ll wrap it up with a culminating Kids Heart Challenge Celebration RRCK’n Moose Day as well.
Please let me know if you have any questions by reaching out to me at tcrippe@dpsk12.net. Thanks so much!
