PRINCIPAL POST
MARCH 2025
Dear Southmoor Community,
As we step into March, we welcome the season of spring—a time of renewal, growth, and new possibilities. Just as the world around us begins to bloom, so do our students as they continue their journey of learning and discovery.
This month, we remain committed to engaging students in meaningful learning experiences that challenge and inspire them. Growth happens not only academically but also socially and emotionally, and we recognize the important role our partnerships with families play in this process. Together, we create an environment where every child feels supported, encouraged, and empowered to reach their full potential.
Thank you for your continued collaboration and dedication to our students' success. Let’s embrace this season of growth with enthusiasm and optimism!
In service of the most important person in the world - YOUR CHILD,
Jonell Pineda

2025-2026 Student Devices: Beginning in the 2025/2026 school year, schools are responsible for replacing student technology (Chromebooks, chargers, hotspots, etc.) that is lost and/or for damage not covered under the district-purchased warranties. Schools will add any student-related technology damage and/or loss fees and will need to work with families to collect payment. The collected payments from these fees should be used to offset the cost to the school for the technology replacements. If fees are not collected, schools will still need to replace the technology out of their school budget. The cost of the assessed damage may change. As of this email, the price points schools would charge a student are listed below:
-
Loss of technology:
-
Chromebook: $399.13
-
Chromebook charger: $27.95
-
Chromebook case: $19.89
-
* Hotspot or hotspot charger: $20 (this includes loss and/or damage)
-
Damage that is not claimable under warranty: As the cost of each part varies, this amount will be based on the type of damage and which parts are impacted. If damage leads to parts replacement costs that exceed the amount of a replacement Chromebook, the student will be charged that amount (currently $399.13)

OPPORTUNITIES |

WE LOVE OUR VOLUNTEERS! There are many ways for parents and family members to be involved in our school. For volunteer opportunities and to sign up please check in with your student's teacher or our amazing PTO who are always looking for volunteers. If you will be in the classroom working with students, chaperoning a field trip, or helping with a special event at school a background check is necessary. Visitors who are here for school functions, parties, etc. will not be required to have a background check. These background checks are good for 1 calendar year and will have to be re-submitted every year for updated information. Reminder: All volunteers no matter how big or small their roles are must have a current volunteer background check on file. https://equity.dpsk12.org/get-involved/volunteer-services/
*GOOD DEED CODE: We do not publish the Good Deed Code, so we direct volunteers to start at the DPS Volunteer Services website. The purple Volunteer Background Check Portal tab is hyperlinked to the Sterling Volunteers DPS prepaid account landing page. When using this link, payment is not required. If you are having trouble with the application please contact Sterling Volunteers directly for assistance. All of their information is on the application page.
