PRINCIPAL POST
APRIL 2025
Dear Southmoor Community,
As we move into the final stretch of the school year, our collective focus remains on supporting every student in their learning journey. In April, our Grades 3-5 students will take the CMAS assessment, an opportunity for them to demonstrate their hard work, perseverance, and deep thinking. At the same time, our youngest learners in ECE-2 will continue strengthening the foundational skills that set them up for future success.
This is a time to celebrate how far our students have come and to uplift them as they continue to grow. Whether through assessments like CMAS or everyday learning experiences, our goal remains the same—to build confident, capable learners who embrace challenges and recognize their own progress. These moments help our students not only showcase what they know but also develop the resilience and skills they will carry with them far beyond this school year.
We all have a role to play in fostering a positive and supportive environment for our students. Here are a few ways our community can help:
✅ Encourage a growth mindset – Remind students that learning is a journey, and every challenge is an opportunity to grow. Celebrate their effort and perseverance!
✅ Support healthy habits – Ensure students get plenty of rest, eat nutritious meals, and engage in movement and mindfulness to stay focused and energized.
✅ Create a calm and positive mindset around assessments – Help students see assessments as a chance to show what they know, rather than something to fear. Your reassurance makes a difference!
✅ Stay engaged in learning – Ask your child about what they’re learning, read together, and encourage curiosity. Your involvement reinforces the value of education.
Southmoor is a strong and supportive community, and together, we can ensure that all our students feel confident and prepared to take on any challenge. Thank you for being our partners in learning—we are so proud of our students and the progress they are making each day!
In service of the most important person in the world - YOUR CHILD,

WE LOVE OUR VOLUNTEERS! There are many ways for parents and family members to be involved in our school. For volunteer opportunities and to sign up please check in with your student's teacher or our amazing PTO who are always looking for volunteers. If you will be in the classroom working with students, chaperoning a field trip, or helping with a special event at school a background check is necessary. Visitors who are here for school functions, parties, etc. will not be required to have a background check. These background checks are good for 1 calendar year and will have to be re-submitted every year for updated information. Reminder: All volunteers no matter how big or small their roles are must have a current volunteer background check on file. https://equity.dpsk12.org/get-involved/volunteer-services/
*GOOD DEED CODE: We do not publish the Good Deed Code, so we direct volunteers to start at the DPS Volunteer Services website. The purple Volunteer Background Check Portal tab is hyperlinked to the Sterling Volunteers DPS prepaid account landing page. When using this link, payment is not required. If you are having trouble with the application please contact Sterling Volunteers directly for assistance. All of their information is on the application page.
