Attention Genesis Academy Students and Families,
Today, Genesis Academy conducted student entry searches, including searches of student bags and backpacks, as students entered campus. These procedures are part of our ongoing commitment to maintaining a safe, secure, and orderly learning environment for all students and staff.
Please be advised that these searches will continue throughout the school year as necessary to ensure campus safety.
Student safety remains our highest priority.
Student Search Policy
(As outlined in the Genesis Academy Student Manual)
Authority to Search
School administrators have the right to search and seize property, including school property temporarily assigned to students, when there is reasonable suspicion to believe that materials or items detrimental to the health, safety, or welfare of students, staff, or faculty may be in a student’s possession or control.
Scope of Searches
Searches may include, but are not limited to:
-
Student backpacks and bags
-
Pockets
-
Shoes
-
Other personal property
All searches will be reasonable in scope and related to the suspected infraction.
Searches may include requests for removal of outer garments such as:
-
Jackets
-
Sweaters
-
Shoes
Searches will not normally include the removal of other clothing items.
Strip searches are strictly prohibited.
Random Searches
Random school-wide searches of all student backpacks and purses may be conducted several times throughout the academic year to maintain a safe and orderly school climate.
Refusal to Submit to Search
If a student refuses a search as a condition of entering the building, the student is choosing not to attend school and will be subject to the following consequences:
-
First Refusal: 1–3 days Out-of-School Suspension
-
Second Refusal: 3–5 days Out-of-School Suspension
-
Third Refusal: Long-Term Suspension (determined by Administration)
Genesis Academy is committed to providing a secure environment where students can focus on learning and personal growth. We appreciate your cooperation and partnership in ensuring the safety of our campus community.
