I-Ready Diagnostic This Week!

Hello Families,

We’re excited to share that SOAR will be using i-Ready, an adaptive assessment and engaging personalized instruction program!

i-Ready helps us understand your child’s strengths and areas for growth and allows us to celebrate all their achievements throughout the year. i-Ready also provides students with individualized online learning paths that support what we’re working on in Reading.

Here’s what will be shared with students as we prepare for the i-Ready Diagnostic:

·        Students will be able to start and stop as much as needed.

·       A series of correct answers will result in slightly harder questions, while a series of incorrect answers will yield slightly easier questions. This is what we mean when we say “adaptive.”

·       The Diagnostic assumes students will not know the answer to every question. I will explain to students that it is OK to not know every answer. They just need to try their best.

·       The results of the Diagnostic give me current, reliable information that we can use to plan instruction that is “just right” for them.

Here’s how you can help prepare your child:

·       Encourage them to try their best on each question and not rush. (This is very important!)

·       Tell them not to worry about answers they don’t know. They should try their best and move on.

·       Remind your child that it is perfectly OK to answer some of the questions incorrectly.

After the assessment, your child can look forward to online lessons customized just for them, conducted by i-Ready characters you’ll surely come to know.
